Homes for Students has launched SEEN, a new student events initiative designed to enhance student satisfaction and create more inclusive communities across its properties.

Developed in response to the changing expectations and increasingly diverse needs of today’s student population, SEEN places individual experiences, wellbeing and a sense of belonging at the heart of HFS’s approach to resident engagement.

The initiative follows analysis of the Spring 2026 Global Student Living Index survey, which received 14,000 responses. Findings highlighted that students who attended at least one accommodation event early in their stay reported higher levels of happiness and were more likely to rebook, reinforcing the importance of creating opportunities for connection from the outset.

Helena Eaton, Marketing Director at Homes for Students, said:

“SEEN began with one fundamental question: in a world filled with diversity, how do we make every student feel seen? We recognise that every resident is different, and a one-size-fits-all approach to student experience simply doesn’t work.

“SEEN isn’t about creating more events for the sake of it. It’s about creating better, more purposeful and inclusive experiences, ensuring students have the information and opportunities they need to engage in ways that work for them.”

The initiative is built around five key pillars: Community, Wellbeing, Life Skills, Local and Impact, reflecting HFS’s ambition to support students beyond the four walls of their accommodation. From building friendships and developing independence to connecting with local businesses and communities, each pillar contributes to a more rounded university experience.

HFS is introducing event icons to help residents understand what to expect from activities, including their atmosphere, size and location. This will enable students to make more informed choices, particularly those who may find busy or unfamiliar environments overwhelming.

Student feedback, gathered through channels including HFS’s resident experience app, KLIQ, will play an important role in shaping the programme. On-site teams will also be encouraged to develop activities that reflect the individual needs of their residents and the communities around them. What’s more, to support implementation, HFS is introducing a self-assessment framework for operational teams, helping properties evaluate existing activity, identify opportunities for improvement and measure progress over time.

SEEN also represents an opportunity to demonstrate the wider value of investing in the student experience. By supporting satisfaction, engagement and a stronger sense of belonging, the initiative aims to contribute to positive resident feedback and increased rebooking, creating benefits for students, clients and local partners alike.
